House Training - Potty Training
Introduction
Arguably one of the biggest things to teach your dog, is knowing where their toilet is.
Depending on where you live, it might be an apartment without a garden, or a house with a garden, you want your dog to know where to eliminate.
It's important for you to know, to praise your dog when it does well. A few key points to remember, when potty training your dog:
- Praise the dog when it behaves.
- Keep a solid routine.
- Never punish the dog physically for an accident.
- Do not correct the dog unless you catch it in the act.
These are not listed in order of importance, as they're all equally important.
Set a schedule
It's important to set up a schedule for your dog to get used to. Consistency, is key and it is a long way down the line, in training your dog.
Get up at the same time every morning, take your dog out then. Feed it at the same time every day, and take it out after it finishes eating.
Keywords
Teaching your dog keywords like "Walk" or "Outside" will make them associate it with such action, and end up working like a command for them.
Remember, to always bring your dog out to the same place when it's time to go to the toilet, as their odor from themselves will still be in the air, and it will encourage them to do their business in the spot.
